The Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Healthcare Network ranks
among the largest acute care hospitals in America. Located on a 72-acre hilltop two
miles east of downtown Los Angeles, it serves the central region of Los Angeles County,
with a population of approximately 1.2 million. The Healthcare Network is a referral
center for burns, communicable diseases and other types of severe trauma or illness.
In cases of disaster, it is the major emergency resource for both the public and private
sectors.
The LAC+USC Healthcare Network was founded in 1878 and became affiliated with the
USC School of Medicine in 1885. There are 1,600 volunteer physicians, 450 staff physicians
and over 900 residents from all over the country, as well as 600 medical students.
With an average daily census of 1,056, the Healthcare Network employs over 9,000 professionals.
