Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) Volunteer Program

Procedure
|
An Application is
completed, including the listing of two (2) personal references. If the applicant
is a graduate from a four (4)-year college, a copy of the diploma, or current School
ID may be substituted for one reference.
|

Requirements
|
|
|
After receiving the references, or the reference & a copy of BA Degree, or
School ID Badge, prospective volunteer will be invited for an interview by coordinator and Chief Physician
Assistant Mr. Lee Slajer. If applicant is accepted in the DEM Volunteer
Program, Mr. Slajer will issue a written letter of acceptance, which is filed in applicant's
personnel file. After acceptance, applicant will need to attend a General Orientation and
Emergency Trauma Center Orientation conducted once a month on a
Saturday.

Volunteer
must volunteer a four hours rotation: |

12 Midnight - 4:00 a.m.
4:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.
8:00 a.m. - 12:00 Noon
12:00 Noon - 4:00 p.m.
4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
8:00 p.m. - 12 Midnight

DEM Volunteers may not schedule overlapping time (example: 9:00 - 1:00
pm)
|

A "Letter of Recommendation" signed by the Chief Physican Assistant may be requested
after 200 hours of service have been completed. Please allow at least
five (5) working days notice in advance.
Recommendation Letter will be given upon returning of the ID Badge & Uniform.

As in all volunteer services, your services may be terminated for violating Policies
and Procedures. If in any way the DEM Helper Volunteer compromises the safety or impedes
the medical delivery of the patients, these are grounds for dismissal. The above stated
reasons are examples for dismissal from the DEM Volunteer Program, but may not be
inclusive.
