Commitment of one hundred (100) hours of service in the DEM Volunteer Program.

Attend the General Orientation and Department of Emergency Medicine Specific Trainings.

Be able to understand volunteer's duties and not to exceed them.

Have a Health Clearance Test by LAC+USC Med Center Employee Health Dept.

To be fingerprinted at LAC+USC Medical Center - Human Resources

To rent the Adult Volunteer uniform (If in stock Used-$30.00, New S/M/L/XL/2XL/3XL $35.00).

Adhere to the DEM Helper Volunteers' Schedule. If the need to be absent for more than a week,
   always notify the Volunteer Office, and the area supervisor.

After receiving the references, or the reference & a copy of BA Degree, or School ID Badge, prospective volunteer will be invited to contact the Chief Physician Assistant Mr. Lee Slajer for an interview. If applicant is accepted in the DEM Volunteer Program, Mr. Slajer will issue a written letter of acceptance, which is filed in applicant's personnel file. After acceptance, applicant will receive an invitation to attend the Orientation session from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, and the Emergency Trauma Center Specific Orientation from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Orientations conducted once a month on a Saturday.

DEM Volunteers may not schedule overlapping time (example: 9:00 - 1:00 pm)

A "Letter of Recommendation" signed by the Chief Physican Assistant may be requested after one hundred (100) hours of service have been completed. Please allow at least five (5) working days notice in advance.

Recommendation Letter will be given upon returning of the ID Badge & Uniform.

As in all volunteer services, your services may be terminated for violating Policies and Procedures. If in any way the DEM Helper Volunteer compromises the safety or impedes the medical delivery of the patients, these are grounds for dismissal. The above stated reasons are examples for dismissal from the DEM Volunteer Program, but may not be inclusive.
